Episode 16 | An Apple for Starlight |
Aired: October 16, 1992 |
At school, while Ms Hackney is teaching
about pulleys, Teddy makes a paper airplane and flies it into the chalkboard to
the delight of the class but to the disappointment of Ms Hackney and she
threatens to take away their recess for the day so the class straightens up. She
tries to continue teaching but feels dizzy but while Teddy suggests they go
home, Ms Hackney has come prepared with tape recordings of her lesson and
instructs Starlight to teach the class, trusting the class to be on the
same behavior for Starlight as they do for herself. She leaves, saying she'll
try to come back later. Starlight tries to get the class to settle down but it's no use as Teddy flies another airplane, this time into Bon Bon's head and Melody attempts to listen to her music but is only temporarily stopped. Starlight plays the cassette, (which I find slightly humorous that the tape knows fully well that Melody is playing her music, which must be a constant occurrence along with Bon Bon not knowing the answer to the question she is asked.) Teddy gives a more humorous answer that Bon Bon would eat the sac of flour, which gets several classmates giggling so Starlight calls Sweetheart and Bright-Eyes up to hopefully get everyone else to see the importance of lessons, which she does in song format. When the song is finished, however, no one is paying attention so Starlight threatens to report everyone to Ms Hackney (I say threaten because she doesn't actually go to Ms Hackney but instead into the bathroom, wondering what she's doing wrong.) She talks to her "conscience" who tells that one can have fun and learn their lesson and she decides to take the class on a field trip. and uses the tape to get further info, including about Pinto Rock, which is forbidden due to not being fully explored (well how is it going to GET fully explored then?) but a few ponies race off to the rock anyway. Starlight pleads for them to come back but follows them anyway (not much of a teacher, are you, Starlight?). She decides that the cave will be their classroom but despite another attempt to prevent her class from visiting another entrance, the entire class and their teacher slide down into the bottom of the entrance. Patch finds what she thinks is Ponyland treasure but it's only tools, then sees a wagon and decides they bring it back and Starlight agrees but getting back out is harder than it was to get in as attempts fail by Patch and Ace + Teddy. Starlight and the gang help make a pulley after hearing how the Pony Settlers got out of the pit if you will. One-by-one, the ponies make it out until Ace is the last one and no one can pull him up so Ace decides to pull himself and barely makes it as the pulley snaps and rolls back to the pit. Back at school, the clock chimes 3PM just as Ms Hackney returns, feeling much better. the class tells Hackney that they all did their lessons and they agree that learning should be fun. |
