Episode 5 Stand By Me Aired:
July 31, 1992
Just outside the school, the tales gang marvels Melody's cassette player. Melody demonstrates one of its "gazillion" buttons, which eats the tape. Teddy is in hysterics over the tape player's screw up and tries to fix it but Melody's (lack of) interference causes Teddy to further ruin the tape into utter uselessness.  Sweetheart tries to explain that Teddy was trying to help but the rest of the group doesn't buy it. Teddy kicks over a trash can in frustration as Sweetheart suggests that Teddy apologize to Melody but Teddy doesn't apologize to anyone, especially Melody. Sweetheart picks up the trash as a much older pony, Mr Tidwell, approaches, asking if Teddy was causing trouble again. Sweetheart replies that it was an accident and Tidwell wishes all ponies were as responsible as Sweetheart.
Uh-oh! At 1:13 into the episode, Sweetheart had picked up the trash but once Tidwell says that he wished all ponies were as responsible, there's trash on the ground again  at 1:16 into the episode. (If you really want to see whether or not the right image shows trash, you can watch the episode posted by the YouTube user mlptfan.) The school bell rings and Sweetheart says goodbye, running quickly inside the schoolhouse.
A mysterious hoof takes Melody's cassette player. Inside the schoolhouse, no one guesses Ms Hackney's lesson for the day as being Pony Courtroom Procedures, where each pony will get to participate in a pretend trial.  Melody searches for her cassette player and Teddy walks in. She accuses Teddy of stealing it and demands he give it back. Teddy asks to have Melody search her but Melody doesn't have to as she spots a piece of ribbon from the cassette tape stuck to Teddy's hoof. Starlight suggests their courtroom lesson be about the missing cassette player and to Teddy's shock, Ms Hackney agrees. Bright-Eyes is chosen to be the Prosecutor, Starlight the judge and the rest (minus Sweetheart) to be the Jury, Sweetheart agrees to stand up for Teddy.

Before they can start, the school clock chimes 3PM and they rush out. Sweetheart tells Teddy to explain everything so they can win the case.  Teddy replies that if she thinks he needs help, she's as crazy as the rest and gets himself caught in what looks to be a trash can, which Sweetheart frees him of. At the ice cream shop, Sweetheart wants to see what Bright Eyes is doing, which is creating a list of reasons why Teddy should be guilty. (Her reasons are more of jumping to conclusions based on Teddy's normal behavior.)
Melody arrives and Sweetheart wants to talk to her about Teddy but Melody isn't listening. She and the rest of the group leave Sweetheart a choice of Teddy or them. Sweetheart chooses to side with Teddy and the two of them walk out. The next day at the schoolhouse, the case begins. Bright-Eyes' accomplices agree to tell only the truth. Bon Bon insists that Teddy would take it because it would be just like him. Sweetheart disagrees, saying that it's speculation(it's actually jumping to conclusions but close-enough.) She explains in song that the gang doesn't know Teddy like Sweetheart does (and evidentially, there isn't any echo to indicate thoughts here, which lead me to believe that it was a screw up with the animators but in other languages, there IS echoing.

On another note, during the song we see Sweetheart get into accidents involving Teddy but she doesn't help at all, like she's too depressed to at least help a little bit. Surely you can help too, Sweetheart?_ Bright Eyes' accomplices have their own notes about Teddy to Sweetheart's song but Sweetheart again defends Teddy.  After her song ends, she has Teddy go over the evidence with her. Teddy explains he was looking for the coach to sign up for the soccer team but he wasn't there. If Teddy didn't have a cassette player, he wouldn't need to take Melody's right? Teddy doesn't have one but would do anything, or almost anything to get one. (Of course, with Melody's cassette player on the fritz, it wouldn't really be worth stealing.)
Sweetheart questions the piece of cassette tape on Teddy's hoof, which Teddy explains, much to the Jury's disbelief, that it was Melody's and must've gotten stuck there. This leaves Sweetheart stumped as Teddy has convinced the Jury that he DID take it but then she finds that there may be hope and asks to bring in a special witness, Mr. Tidwell. What does Tidwell have and what does he do with them? It's stuff he's found on the playground and he puts them in the lost and found box. Sweetheart finds Melody's cassette player and the case is closed. The ponies have learned quite a bit from this day.
