Episode 63 | The Prince and the Ponies |
Aired: September 23, 1987 |
The ponies get an invitation to the Palace de
Branforr and upon Spike reading it, they learn the newborns are who the
party is for and are required to go. The first tooth ponies are upset
that the others get all the attention and Baby Tic-Tac-Toe hatches a
plan to get them noticed. Just when the others are ready to leave, Baby
Quackers starts their plan but it ends up literally falling apart and
they learn how much more attention baby ponies need. The group heads out
and the buttler lets them in upon recognition. Once inside, Heart Throb loves the sheer size but not the bedroom they'll be sleeping in. However, a girl comes in asking to help find her brother that has been gone for two years. A knock on a door draws the girl away but the ponies see no trace of her when they follow. While dinner is ready, the dutchess is not happy and requests a French meal quickly. The ponies greet the dutchess but she doesn't recognize them until her daughter makes note of who they are. Regardless, the dutchess wants food and heads for the table. Once she gets the additional cushioning that she needs, the dutchess requests putting the tired newborns in the ponies' bedroom. Heart Throb notes of the strange girl and the dutchess indicates she and the old man were plotting to keep the girl imprisoned and assures that the ponies were seeing things. Heart Throb assures they weren't but the dutchess doesn't want to hear it and digs into the chicken. Back home, Baby Tic-Tac-Toe gets another idea and the group decides to go to the party themselves and crash it. In spite of thinking it's not a good idea, Spike decides to tag along anyway. Back at the palace, the ponies aren't satisfied with the events thus far and head back to their room. In fact, Heart Throb wants out and suggests they take the newborn twins and leave. Elsewhere, the first tooth ponies are on their way and so eager to see the newborns meet their demise that they sing about it. Spike's words prove no use (and we see just how dark G1 can be, especially coming from ponies that aren't even adults). Back at the palace, the adult ponies have been thrown in the dungeon of sorts and find they aren't alone as a man named Phillip de Branforr is with them and it's his palace. It's all gone south since the dutchess took the throne and she's also his cook. They need to get through the door but that requires the keys around the snoozing guard's belt. Buttons tries to get the keys with her magic but it's no good. They realize the belt is what's keeping the keys in place and Buttons gets it to unbuckle before grabbing the keys. They open the door and make their escape but the guard awakens and trips thanks to his lack of a belt around his waist, Phillip shows them the secret passageway and they manage to shut the wall door just in time. Just outside, Baby Tick-Tac-Toe finds a way in and the girl from earlier. Inside, Phillip's path has led him and his group to more guards and they race past while Spike and others see the dutchess' daughter obtaining new pets in the form of the newborns and shackles around their necks. It's not what the first tooth ponies had in mind and they race to get by guards just as Philip and the others do the same. With a little help from Buttons and two others, the bring the guards down but a hand grabs Phillip out of sight. It's Suzette, the girl from earlier and they're now happily reunited. They can't stay and be happy for long as Suzette breaks the news about the trouble the first tooth ponies are causing. However, they find the first tooths not causing trouble as they battle the guard and eventually overcome him. More guards arrive so Phillip helps out too, sending four more guards down the stairs. The dutchess' daughter is still with her new "pets" but dutchess would rather get Suzette back in the dungeon. It's too late for that and the guards arrive just as Phillip wants as he shows them what their dutchess and daughter have been doing behind their backs. It's enough for the guards to bring Philip his old job back and throw the dutchess and her daughter back in the scullary for their old job. Philip wants to repay them for their hard work but the first tooth ponies consider themselves even. |
