Episode 43 | Crunch, the Rockdog (Part 1) | Aired: November 12, 1986 |
Two ponies are racing in a desert landscape and
appear to be scared of something behind them but it's being narrated and
we see that it's the end of the story but Wind Whistler brings logic to
the story and starts a debate. The baby ponies are in tears over the end
but Gusty remarks on Wind Whistler's lack of feelings, making Buttons
chuckle. However, it's not amusing to Danny or Megan and they walk out
(though to be fair, applying logic where it doesn't belong is silly so I
think Gusty was in the right). Elsewhere, the Bushwoolies are scurrying to get out of the water as a being named Crunch the Rockdog is on the way. They eventually make it to dry land and struggle to choose which way to go. Several rock-o-lanterns appear before Crunch himself appears and follows, making it clear he dislikes anything soft and squishy. Worse still, he takes it out on the Bushwoolies and most are turned to stone. One of them manages to get away and is out of breath by the time he reaches Megan, Danny, and Wind Whistler, whom assure to Wind Whistler that Gusty and Buttons didn't mean it. The Bushwoolie gets the story out before he collapses from exhaustion. Wind Whistler notes they need a plan of action to find out how Crunch works so they go to see Mr. Moochick. With that they set out and find a peculiar sight when they arrive inside. Mr. Moochick and his rabbit friend are chasing a literally walking stick. The stick heads for the pile of books as the group corners it. A few books are removed and they see just how timid the stick is. Megan and the others feel the stick has been underappeciated and overworked so Mr. Moochick agrees to give it a day off every time the mushrooms bloom. At last, Mr. Moochick gets his cane back and learns of their ordeal but doesn't know whom Crunch the Rockdog is. Nevertheless, he suggests they see the Mountain King and settles down to finish a game of checkers. The rabbit wins again but Mr. Moochick is left wondering if he gave the right information. The group arrive and see the mess Crunch has created before Crunch himself arrives to wreak more havoc takes down the remaining Bushwoolies. As the rest look on, Danny tries scolding Crunch but he ends up leaving Crunch rolling with laughter. With nothing else left to do, the gang grab Danny and bolt. When Crunch finally stops laughing, he and his rock-o-lanterns give chase. Gusty lags behind as she has a plan so the others eventually press on. However, Gusty's dust plan fails and she finds herself blocked by Crunch before being turned to stone. |
