Episode 41 Baby, It's Cold Outside (Part 1) Aired:
November 10, 1986
Winter has arrived in Ponyland and the baby ponies are asleep as best they can but the cold proves too much for Baby Cuddles and she goes to the window. Excited to see snow, she gets the others up and they head outside. As they play, Truly is preping a Snowpony and gets them to help too. However, Galaxy isn't sharing their excitement but Truly brushes it off and gets North Star to put the head on the sculpture. Galaxy is worried about the snow, considering it unnatural this time of year but Truly wants none of it and walks away, urging the others to come along so they can have a snowball fight.
Meanwhile, a penguin named Edgar and a duck named Sunny are eager to find out why things are even so cold where they are and proceed to the entrance of a fortress their dad owns. They get granted access and find their dad hard at work with his eyes. It's all part of his plan to make winter permanent using his icy cold stare and his machine to make it only comfortable for penguins. He'll rule the world and freeze any animals unfortunate to have no way to thrive on their own but Edgar doesn't like the idea.

His father isn't happy to hear that and ends up freezing Sunny when Sunny kindly protests against it. The event brings Edgar to tears as his father says he'll understand once he becomes king and orders Sunny to be taken away. Back in Ponyland, as the ponies continue their snowball fight, Galaxy interrupts, but once again is met with disappproval. However, once they see the waterfall and rainbow freeze, it's clear that they need help. Baby Cuddles is getting very cold so Galaxy and North Star do their best to comfort her.
Galaxy isn't going to let the winter get to them and uses a song to get the others just as eager to keep going. By the time the song is over, only Suprise has made it across successfully and Megan is relieved to see her. Surprise isn't so sure she can make it back but Megan is ready and gives her wing warmers. They take to the skies and arrive safely back in Ponyland, where the others are very glad to see them. It's worse than Megan thought and she doesn't know what to do next so Galaxy suggests going north.
Surprise isn't as thrilled but they head out anyway. After much walking, they don't seem to be getting any closer and Surprise is really feeing the cold, unable to stand very long on the ice. Suprise slips on the ice and finds two sea ponies that are trying to lead the way from beneath the icy lake. The sea ponies successfully reach Edger's father's fortress but now Megan and the ponies are on their own.  Surprise and North Star try flying above to lead them through the maze but the cold air has gotten to them and flying proves to be too difficult.
They head inside and try the maze but not even Galaxy's intuition proves to be that useful. Surprise has her own way but a gorilla awakens to the commotion and isn't happy about it. As the ponies and Megan progress, so does the gorilla, which prevents them from going any further.
