Episode 158 | Triple Threat | Aired: August 19 2017 |
We find Spike with a LONG checklist of items
he's double-checking to ensure it's where it should be and/or working
properly. Twilight is happy to see that things are seemingly in order
and assures that there's no reason to worry. However, Spike has much to
worry about with Ember the dragonlord on the way to learn about
friendship. Starlight arrives to note that Spike has probably been
taking worries from Twilight herself. A tap on the shoulder breaks his
concentration as Thorax has appeared, leaving Spike startled. The double
invitation has Starlight and Twilight on edge as they fear the worst.
Spike had totally forgotten inviting Thorax and figures there will probably no way he and Ember will get along given their differences. With fears mounting, Spike hyperventillates until Twilight gets him somewhat under control. As Thorax and Spike chat, Ember closes in so Twilight and Spike help escort Thorax to Twilight's castle. Ember makes a less-than-soft landing and gets an earful from the trumpeting ponies nearby as she learns what's going on. Ember struggles to get used to her new surroundings as Spike gives her a welcome hug and she mistakes Starlight for Twilight. Unfortunately, Spike gives away Twilight's location and not even an upset stomach excuse keeps Ember away. It's enough to convince Starlight that she likes Ember. Fortunately, they enter the castle to find the area unoccupied. As a further stall tactic, Spike brings Ember to a "special friendship welcome banquet" but Ember eats just about everything except the food and it's something she could get used to. Spike heads off to check on Twilight and Thorax, leaving Starlight to attend to Ember and her castle lunch. Thorax isn't having a better time listening to Twilight talk about her love of chairs but when Spike enters, he doesn't chat with him long and goes right to Twilight, snagging her away to another room. Once inside, Spike breaks the news that Twilight is already aware of and had used the chair discussion as a distraction. They just need to keep the duo apart for a few more hours but Spike gets his first summoning from the map via the spikes on his head. The news is anything but comforting as now Spike must figure out whom is in need of a solved friendship problem. Starlight enters to break the news but has to put it aside when she finds out what's going on. Once things are straighened out, Spike sets off into town and requests Twilight and Starlight to stay behind and further stall Thorax and Ember. While Spike attends to a supposed friendship problem with Bon Bon and Lyra, Twilight attends to Ember and struggles to maintain a straight face after seeing the damage to her castle. While Twilight gets Ember to start a tour outside, Starlight checks up on Thorax just as he gets somewhat cozy in the chair, using the old paperwork excuse as the reason for their abscence. For themselves, Starlight suggests they get lunch in town for the "best food". Outside, Spike has just solved the problem but it's clearly not the one he's meant to solve as his spikes aren't glowing like they did before. Finally, Thorax can chat with Spike so Starlight heads off. Thorax relays a rather complicated problem regarding the Changelings that refuse to stop feeding off of love while Twilight and Ember get attention from residents, until Ember breathes fire and scares them all away. Since it's not how ponies make friends, Ember reverts back to what she'd learned earlier, only to lose Derpy too in the process. Worse still, Ember confuses Starlight for Twilight again right when the two of them are each on one side of her. Ember apologizes, convinced the two of them are so much alike (though I don't see much of a resemblence and neither do Twilight and Starlight). Elsewhere, time passes as Spike is still hearing Thorax's story when a seemingly new friendship problem takes shape behind the table. Spike takes off and solves it but it's still not the intended friendship problem he was meant to solve. Meanwhile, things are no better with Twilight and Starlight regarding Ember's belief so Spike attends to the matter. However, Spike only causes the problem to escalate as Ember feels like she's being accused of lying. Thorax doesn't like this reaction and decides to stand up for Spike, converting into a bear to start a feud with Ember. Spike tries to settle things but only causes the two of them to drift apart. We find Thorax near a pond kicking rocks into it when Ember arrives with advice of her own but refuses to talk about her ordeal and intends on using her brute strength and duels with other dragons to deal wit h it. It's not until Thorax gets her to realize what she's doing when she vanquishes the others that Ember becomes sad and understand why it's not the right way. This time, Thorax gives Ember advice on telling others what she feels. With both situations fixed, they head off to see Spike and find him just as he's cleaning up and under the impression that they won't want to see him again. Spike fully understands their anger (even when Ember struggles to make it clear) and it was his own fault for making the mess in the first place. Luckily, Thorax and Ember forgive Spike and Thorax brings Spike and Ember to him for a hug. This time, Spike's spikes glow, indicating the task is complete. Spike should've told Ember about Thorax beforehand and vice-versa and that's a lesson all ponies learn. With that, the party resumes and both Ember and Thorax get the flame of friendship before Ember's sneezing melts part of the ice sculpture and get a good laugh with Spike and Thorax about it. |
