Episode 156 The Perfect Pair Aired:
August 5 2017
We find Apple Bloom walking through town as a crowd races to an elderly pony with goods. Apple Bloom squeezes through and finds out the elderly male is Grand Pear with much generosity. Furthermore, it's revealed he's been in town before and he moved back for a change of pace. The treat proves delicious for Apple Bloom and she wants to buy a jar of the jam. Grand Pear gives it to her at no charge so she thanks him and walks home.
At the house, pankcakes are on the menu for dinner and Apple Bloom shows the topping she plans to add. Unfortunately, it's met with fear and anxiety as Applejack and Big Mac scurry to hide the jar from Granny Smith.  Apple Bloom becomes confused and learns of the apparent feud between their family and the Pear family but not the reason for the feud in the first place.
Granny Smith overhears the conversation and wants to know what she's to be asked about so Applejack changes the question to something unrelated. Granny Smith takes no notice to the unusual section of the floor that's been pulled up and piled high with dirt and heads off to wash up for dinner.  Given that Grand Pear was so nice at the market, it has Apple Bloom curious as to what went down in the past. However, Granny Smith had been too upset to tell the story herself, leaving the trio unable to figure out whom to see instead.
Applejack realizes that they can see Goldie Delicious about it as she's the family historian and set off first thing the next day. When they see her, it's another typical messy pile that comes out with her and the trio explain the situation to her. Luckily, the book Goldie needs isn't buried and the first part of the story is ready to be told.  Partway through, Applejack, Apple Bloom and Big Mac don't like the sound of having a parent that was a Pear.
They need more info and Goldie shares what she knows but needs access to another book in the pile but with a jaguar guarding it, it may be a while before Goldie can access it but she starts the climb anyway. Along the way up, she remembers a bit more to the story and recommends them to talk to Burnt Oak, a firewood-selling pony for more info on the feud. They find Burnt Oak himself and he's more-than-willing to share the next part of the story. However, he doesn't have as much to share and suggests they see Mrs. Cake for her part of the story as the two of them were best friends back in the day.
Before they go, Big Mac gets greenlit for a ret urn trip or two for more stories. At Sugar Cube Corner, Mrs. Cake is hard at work and is surprised to see the three of them. When they bring up the question about the relationship between her and their mom, Mrs. Cake is happy to share the info, revealing that she wasn't always known for her baking skills, nor for being Mrs. Cake. In fact, she was there to see their mom with their dad having fun and was in the process of bringing a cake along as a surprise.
Young Granny Smith is there to take Bright Mac away but the duo refuse to give up their love for each other, even as they're being separated once again. As they sit together at sunset, they each had a present for each other but Pear Butter has to show her's as it's a song. The most shocking part of the story emerges when they reach the point where the Pears decided to move to Vanhoover.  Just when they're about to hear the most romantic thing their dad did, it's all Mrs. Cake has to offer and they go to see Mayor Mare for the rest.
Sure enough, Mayor Mare does have the rest and shows that she was a part of the romance due to the wedding (where her hair color is much different). Just when the vows are about to be finalized, the parents arrive and are angry at what they see. With that, Mayor Mare quickly finishes the vows and initiates the duo as a husband and wife.  Pear Butter refuses to take her father's words and has accepted Bright Mac as her partner. It's now clear why Granny Smith was never able to tell the story as Grand Pear had left her that day.
With loose ends to tie-up, the trio set off to find their grandparents and start with Grand Pear. When Apple Bloom brings up the subject, Grand Pear admits he left out of anger not for a change of pace and apologizes. The trio accept his apology and hug as it was in the past and not what matters. They return to Sweet Apple Acres and explain where they've been to Granny Smith. Furthermore, they brought along Grand Pear and the duo apologize for their behavior. They're all together now and since they've made up, the trio take Granny Smith and Grand Pear to a special tree that features both apples and pears as token of their parents. With that, Granny Smith marvels over the tree and the group sit around it.
