Episode 152 | Honest Apple | Aired: June 3 2017 |
We find Spike and Rartiy traveling after Spike
was enlisted to help by caring a towering stack of flyers along the way
while Rarity places a flyer on each door. Pinkie Pie can't help but
guess what the occasion is for and shows her guitar "skills", to
Rarity's amusement, causing Spike's pile of flyers to scatter on the
ground. While Spike picks up the flyers, Pinkie Pie and Rarity discuss
the upcoming fashion contest Rarity mentions. Just as Applejack is passying by in the background, Rarity shocks everyone else around her by announcing Applejack as the other judge but even after Rarity explains it, Pinkie Pie and Applejack remain confused (and Spike is still picking up flyers). With Applejack still not sold on the idea, Rarity gets her to agree to think about it and the duo split. Rarity helps with the rest of the cleanup with her magic while Applejack breaks the news to Big Macintosh, practically ridiculing the idea as a whole. It's something Apple Bloom fancies as she knows about fashion (and can't seem to catch a single apple in her basket as she proceeds to help Applejack) but Applejack still has seconds thoughts about it. Unfortunately Apple Bloom's efforts are doubling their workload and it's thanks to the giant ribbon bringing the hat down below her eyes. Applejack unties the ribbon and allows Apple Bloom to see well enough to do the job right. It becomes clear to Applejack that she'll become a judge on the fashion show after all. She breaks the decision to Rarity, whom hugs her in response just before Photo Finish and the others arrive. They show Rarity Coco Pommel's successful run since their last encounter before introducing Applejack to their current fashion trend. However, Applejack is at a loss for words and ends up ridiculing the outfit instead, much to Rarity and the others' dismay. When Photo Finish recovers from her faint from the comment Applejack made, Rarity tries to explain things but it doesn't help Applejack understand it at all. With that, the group head off to meet the designers and their current fashions. Lily Lace is up first and shares the story of how her dress came to be. It's met with approval from everyone but Applejack, whom struggles to make sense of the design. The 2nd designer is met with the same results as only Applejack is confused by the design. When it's Icky Rose's turn (and might I add that's a rather unfortunate name choice on the writers' parts), Applejack finally has something to say but it's nothing that anyone approves. Worse still, Applejack dislikes Icky Rose's fashion design that involves nails in socks (and though it's not my cup of tea either, I'd still have something positive to say about it). As they move through the line of designers and their outfits, Applejack only proves to be more hurtful with each one. Luckily, Rarity stops Applejack from making things any worse and convinces Applejack to leave with her so that the designers can finish their work. Outside, Applejack finds Pinkie Pie and assures things went very well with the judging. However, Rarity has the opposite remark on the experience and uses Pinkie Pie's instrument to relieve stress (right down to the out-of-the-blue metal solo I might add). Feeling much better, Rarity returns with the others to her boutique for final pre-show adjustments. Unfortunately, Applejack has not changed her attitude and continues to put down each designer's efforts. Regardless, they move down and but Photo Finish feels something is missing to the outfit and finds a belt to improve it. Additionally, Hoity Toity finds the same belt and has a different view on how it improves the design, leaving Applejack to snicker at the ensuing argument. It's all the proof Applejack needs to conclude fashion is ridiculous, prompting the celebrities to make their way out of the boutique. The sight causes Rarity dart out in tears, leaving Applejack to wonder what went wrong. Rarity orders the removal of the show's props before venting her frustration on Pinkie Pie. Applejack sees the commotion and gets the blame for what happened (though it is Rarity's fault so Applejack is somewhat in the right here). When Applejack refuses to see where she's gone wrong, Rarity takes her to a friend that has a dislike in apples. It throws Applejack to the boiling point until Rarity gets her to realize that it's the exact same harshness Applejack had said earlier with the designers and their outfits. Applejack apologizes but while Rarity is touched, it's too late for the fashion show. However, Applejack isn't giving up and finds the fashion designers that evening as they're leaving. She manages to bring them all in and accepts their apology if the trio are set free o from the rope, which Applejack happily does. Just as the workers finish the removal of the props, Applejack puts them back to work getting them back up and also helps out inside the boutique. By the time Rarity and Pinkie Pie have returned for their (apparent) deal with Applejack to stall for time, things are ready to go for the fashion show. Rarity is confused until she learns what Applejack had done and breaks into tears of joy. Without another moment going by, the fashion show gets underway and when it's time to vote, each judge has their own decision made. Applejack has trouble making up her mind and votes for all of them in the end. Back inside, Rarity has the layout for each designer's rack of clothing but left one she messed up on by mistake and it is not one to be displayed for much longer. Even Applejack agrees it's horrible and the two have a good laugh. |
