Episode 141 Top Bolt Aired:
October 15 2016
At the Wonderbolts Academy locker room, Rainbow Dash is all-too-excited to return home after having a blast with flight training. The only other member has already understood Rainbow Dash's excitement but has to listen to the whole story before Rainbow Dash finally shuts up. Spitfire isn't as thrilled at her upcoming trials week, even though she loves yelling and blowing her whistle. With that, Rainbow Dash races out but makes sure to re-grab her bags when they fall off. Along the way, her cutie mark summons her to the map in Twilight's castle so she heads there, only to find that she and Twilight are being ordered back to the Wonderbolts Academy.

Nevertheless, they arrive to watch a few pegasai fly around them and gaze at Spitfire at work down below. Spitfire does everything she can to make sure they lose confidence and ultimately fail the final evaluation. Just when a few of the ponies already lack self-confidence, Rainbow Dash and Twilight arrive with Rainbow Dash having fond memories of her first time at the academy. Spitfire barely acknowledges them and orders her group to 500 laps but one of them, Angel Wing, pauses to make the two of them her favorites before taking her laps.
Spitfire is already aware of Princess Twilight and is filled in on why the two of them are here. It isn't Spitfire's job to keep track of relationships but Rainbow Dash notices problems with the pegasai above but isn't willing to straight-up let them know. Spitfire figures it'll be difficult in the classroom portion of trial week, which gives Twilight an idea. The duo are willing to work together but after Spitfire abruptly ends the flying training, everyone lands on the ground and runs straight into one another. Twilight and Rainbow Dash aren't aware just how hard it'll be to train them in class but Twilight came prepared.
Rainbow Dash will keep the class awake with an airhorn and it proves effective as they first walk in but one classmate groans at having to learn the basics as they're already amazing flyers and reveals himself as Sky Stinger. Regardless, it takes Sky Stinger's classmate Vapor Trail to fill in on just how good Sky Stinger is but Twilight wants to remain focused on their lesson and eventually gets them focused again. However, Rainbow Dash can't stay awake and has to take the sound her own airhorn suggestion to snap out of it. Class ends and Twilight considers the lesson an overall success but Sky Stinger is nervous about the solo test.

However, Sky Stinger isn't worried about himself but Vapor Trail, whom lacks self-confidence. Rainbow Dash suggests Sky Stinger to get Vapor Trail and practice flying to show their skills. When the duo get flying, Twilight is impressed with Sky Stinger's flying skills and doesn't notice that Vapor Trail is heling out until more tricks are performed and Vapor Trail is seen under her partner. It's clear that neither pony is aware of the other and they realize they're supposed to help Vapor Trail and Sky Stinger with their friendship problem but agree not to tell either pony for fear of the trouble it may cause.
Sky Stinger and Vapor Trail finish up but while Sky Stinger is ready for another round, Vapor Trail is tired out, leaving Spitfire to scold her and Angel Wing, whom is struggling to take care of a cloud. While Vapor Trail heads off to the showers, Sky Stinger urges them to help out even though she's not the one in need of help. They find Vapor Trail in the locker room and once again Rainbow Dash has to keep Twilight from exposing the truth. Finally, Twilight gets it out but Vapor Trail has a story to tell as to why she's helping Sky Stinger as well as how the two of them met. She never meant to hurt anyone, just wanted to help out.
Vapor Trail refuses to have the truth be told to Sky Stinger so they agree to try Rainbow Dash's strategy. With that, Twilight pairs up with Sky Stinger while Rainbow Dash goes with Vapor Trail but things are not going well for Sky Stinger while Vapor Trail shows that she does have some skills. The groups meet on the runway and despite proof that he's no good, Sky Stinger maintains he's too good for the basics while Vapor Trail has proven herself throughout. Vapor Trail cannot hold in the truth anymore and lets it all out but it takes Sky Stinger until he fails to get much height at all before he realizes it's true.
However, things escalate when Sky Stinger accuses Vapor Trail of already being aware that he's a joke and flies off, leaving both ponies mad at not only each other but Rainbow Dash and Twilight. Later, while the pegasai line up for the Dizzytron, Twilight and Rainbow Dash each have regrets but assure Spitfire they'll fix the problem they've caused and Twilight has a plan on how to achieve that. While Twilight talks to Sky Stinger, Rainbow Dash tackles Vapor Trail, whom is proving harder to convince. Once both side are in agreement, they're brought together where Rainbow Dash convinces them to stop being angry with each other.

It works and the duo are not only back together but give advice and encouragement when one of them is working on their skills. The next day, both ponies pass the test with flying colors and make it into the academy, leavintg Spitfire convinced that the duo may be better than Rainbow Dash. It's also enough for Angel wing to make them her new favorites but Rainbow Dash isn't happy about it. With the two ponies back together and agreeing to be each others' wing pony, Twilight and Rainbow Dash are summoned back home.  They arrive but don't get to do anything else when Rainbow Dash is wanted back at the Wonderbolts Academy, leaving Twilight have a good laugh given that Rainbow Dash was just there.
