Episode 140 | Where the Apple Lies | Aired: October 8 2016 |
At Sweet Apple Acres, the last of Filthy Rich's order
is put onto the cart for transport and Filthy Rich is only too happy for
it, insisting they just call him Rich. Despite their happy customer,
Applejack finds a problem whereby Apple Bloom had put both the Zap Apple
Jam and Cider in the same crates to prove her responsibility's worth.
With the crates unmarked, Apple Bloom assures she did keep track of what
went where but Applejack and Big Mac aren't entirely convinced and find
out it's not true when they open a crate with Zap Apple Jam. Apple Bloom regrets her lie and the shipment is fixed with Filthy Rich assuring he didn't do anything wrong. Big Macintosh and Applejack know the culprit and wave goodbye to Filthy Rich once more before tackling Apple Bloom and her lie. Apple Bloom thought she could fix it before anyone would find out but Applejack protests otherwise even though she's never been one to lie herself. However, as Big Mac and Granny Smith indicate, Applejack hasn't always been so honest so Applejack allows Granny Smith to tell the whole story to teach Apple Bloom a lesson. We find younger Applejack and Big Macintosh in an argument over methods to run the farm (and we find just how talkative Big Macintosh used to be). Granny Smith had enough of their arguing and wanted them working so that's what the duo set off to do. Unfortunately, Big Macintosh cannot keep his mouth shut and continues rambling on to Applejack's disgust before they meet Filthy Rich and his then fiancee Spoiled Milk (at least that's what I've read her name is as I can only make out "Spoiled Mil", whom isn't as thrilled to see either of them, nor their profession. Nevertheless, she notes that her husband-to-be already owns the Rich business before being pardoned by Filthy Rich. Filthy Rich also has multiple ideas for how to continue, including one to let him sell the Apple family cider for them. While Applejack agrees, Big Macintosh provides a lengthy reason against it. Applejack goes against Big Macintosh's protest by allowing Filthy Rich to sell three barrels of cider and wait for the results before making a deal for more. Filthy Rich accepts the idea and shakes hooves with Applejack before departing with his fiancee. When Applehack and Big Macintosh return to the farm with buckets as requested, Big Macintosh gives Applejack another earful before Applejack assures it'll be accepted. Granny Smith overhears and wants to know what the big idea is, knowing full well what Big Macintosh has said regarding big ideas. Contrary to Applejack's assurance, Granny disapproves the idea given that cider spoils almost immediately after it leaves the barrel when Zap Apple Jam stays good for days on end. Granny Smith leaves Applejack no choice but to undo the promise, leaving Applejack and Big Macintosh to head back into town. Along the way, Applejack gets another earful of Big Macintosh's rambling before they arrive at Filthy Rich's store. They break the news to Filthy Rich but he's not so willing to accept the undo given the work he'd done and their agreement. In fact, Filthy Rich threatens to stop doing business with Granny Smith and Sweet Apple Acres should the deal be undone so Big Macintosh tries to further explain when Applejack interrupts to say that Granny Smith is sick. It's enough to change Filthy Rich's perspective on the ordeal but Big Macintosh remains unconvinced without Filthy Rich taking notice. With the deal seemingly undone, the duo head home where Big Macintosh lays down anger from Applejack's latest lie. When Granny Smith enters with the salad bowl, Big Macintosh has to convince her to walk away so the conversation can continue. They need a better plan but are interrupted with a knock at the door. It's Filthy Rich and Spoiled Milk, whom wish Granny Smith a speedy recover with flowers, forcing more sarcasm from Big Macintosh. Applejack shuts the front door and breaks away to distract Granny Smith some more by causing an accident with her. Applejack gets Granny out and returns in time to see Big Macintosh telling the unncessary story of why he's never without his front yolk. They head outside where Applejack continues the lie with Granny Smith working outside by the barn. Once again, Applejack breaks from the group to ensure Granny Smith isn't in plain sight, this time to tell the story of how she flew the flag. Back outside, Filthy Rich and Spoiled Milk still await when they can see Granny Smith again so Applejack notes that Granny Smith has Apple Blithe, a disease normally only affecting trees. Applejack manages to convince Filthy Rich and his fiancee to head to the hospital, which isn't exactly where young Applejack had in mind. Applejack and Big Macintosh return to find Granny Smith still going on with her story and have to interrupt her for a trip to the hospital to keep the lying story consistant. Unfortunately, when they arrive, Filthy Rich and his fiancee are also just feet away so Applejack diverts Granny Smith and Big Macintosh to the back. Once inside, Applejack gets Granny Smith dressed as a doctor so Filthy Rich and his fiancee don't notice as they approach from a corner. Applejack finds Filthy Rich and his fianceee at the receptionist's desk with no mention of anything regarding to Granny Smith having the disease or even where her room is. With that, Applejack gives the two of them the rather complicated way around before returning to Granny Smith and Big Macintosh in the hallway. The reunion is short-lived as Applejack puts her latest piece of her lie into place with Big Macintosh posing as Granny Smith with the disease. Left with no better alternative, Big Macintosh regrettingly takes part. Applejack finds Granny Smith in the middle of the hallway and promptly shoves her into the jainitor's closet just as Filthy Rich and his fiancee arrive after their travels all around the hospital. Applejack shows them Granny's room but "Granny Smith" has already been taken out, leaving Filthy Rich and his fiancee confused. Applejack gets them to follow where the stretcher is going while Applejack takes Granny Smith unwittingly to the exact same location. Worse still, Applejack isn't allowed to come any closer without proper protection and is forced to watch in horror as Granny Smith herself tries to present Big Macintosh as a victim of Apple Blithe. Everyone gasps as Granny Smith unveils a sharp hacksaw to demonstrate what one does with trees suffering from the disease, leaving Big Macintosh and Applejack equally uneasy to the point where Applejack cannot stand it any longer and comes clean. Big Macintosh admits he should talk less, especially to his sister but Granny Smith has the final word as she's not going anywhere anytime soon and won't allow Filthy Rich to end their deal with Sweet Apple Acres, nor allow Applejack or Big Macintosh to run the farm after their antics. Granny Smith begins telling the story about Apple Blithe just before the flashback ends, leaving Apple Bloom in shock that her honest sister could tell so many lies. Applejack isn't proud of the story but it tought her about honesty and that's something Apple Bloom has learned as well. Plus Granny Smith is the real pony behind Sweet Apple Acres' success and she wants them back to work after they have a glass of apple cider. |
