Episode 129 Spice Up Your Life Aired:
June 11 2016
We find the ponies and Spike gathered around the Cutie Mark Map's location as Twilight discusses the lack of recent calling cards from the map and it's all thanks to Starlight Glimmer's recent rampage of time travel. Luckily, Starlight has changed since then and now they think they have a spell to get the map back in working order. After getting Spike out of the way, the Twilight and Starlight combine powers and get the map successfully back into view, much to the delight of everyone else. After much anticipation as the map figures out which duo to take the journey and the next friendship problem, the map settles on Rarity and Pinkie Pie for Canterlot, leaving Rarity all-too-excited at all the unrelated things she wants to do.

Even Pinkie knows that ponies can get excited over the silliest things (like you for example and it's pretty much everything). The duo set off by train and arrive in short order before figuring out where to start looking for their mission's problem. Since it's a team effort, they agree on playing off each others' suggestions until Pinkie Pie's body demands food. With that, they head to a road that is lined with restaurants and with Pinkie unable to pick one, Rarity suggests looking for ones with three hoof ratings as given by Zesty Gourmand, a strict food critic whose ratings basically determine which restaurants stay open and which ones close down for good.

However, the starting entree doesn't sit well with either of them and neither do any of the entrees at the other restaurants so Pinkie is greenlit to try one with her nose and ends up at Tasty Treat. While Rarity is having second thoughts from the restaurant's lack of rating, Pinkie is relieved at the change of pace and heads in with excitement. Rarity eventually comes in and joins Pinkie but isn't so sure the restaurant is open (though the door is usually an indication that they're open, especially with a sign). Pinkie's nose is proof to Pinkie Pie that the restaurant is more than likely open and sure enough a waitress comes out, revealing herself as Saffron (something as she has an accent and spoke it too quickly for me to understand).

Pinkie is willing to have two of the recommended food items while Rarity is no longer hungry for anything. While they wait, a somewhat large male pony enters (with an accent even stronger than Saffron's as I cannot even understand what he's saying). Saffron arrives in time to scold her father for his actions. As Pinkie Pie dines on her delicious dish, Rarity watches the quarrel unfolding just feet away. Pinkie saves a portion of her meal to give to Rarity, whom enjoys it but then resumes watching with Pinkie Pie watching with equal bewilderment until she realizes that the arguing ponies are likely their friendship problem to be solved.

Rarity isn't so sure and doesn't see how they could help anyway but the argument reveals the issues and the duo have all the proof they need to help. While Rarity heads out, Saffron's father starts packing up, assuming that Rarity will be unsucessful at getting Zesty to stop by. However, Rarity arrives with news that Zesty is coming, though only for one night. The group decide to split up, leaving Rarity and Saffron's father to get things ready there while Pinkie Pie and Saffron try to bring in customers. Rarity gets a song started to show Saffron's father just what needs to be done while Pinkie shows how to get her task with Saffron done.

With dusk approaching, they haven't attracted any customers and not even a couple passing by is interested without ratings. Luckily, two others arrive, looking for a change of pace and invite them in. However, when they arrive they find the restaurant is drastically different than before. In fact, it now resembles the other restaurants in town. Worse still, neither of them ended up doing what they were supposed to and Zesty has arrived so they get in place. Zesty relaxes and gets seated while Saffron's father works to get one of their new meals out. However, Saffron isn't cooking by the new proceedure as she's trying to add some flavor and save their business. Pinkie Pie pours a bowls worth and races to try and give it to Zesty but Rarity trips her up and the bowl lands on Zesty's head.
Zesty needs no further proof that the restaurant isn't up to her standards and leaves, having concluded that the restaurant is trying too hard to impress without any success. As a compromise, Saffron brings out a bowl of soup that is just like when they were younger. All she wanted to do was make food for Canterlot like the two of them used to do together and her father reminds her of fond memories of hiding unlikable ingredients in the past. Rarity decides to not let what Zesty thinks be the final word when all they need are ponies willing to give it a try. To get customers, Rarity decides to head out, leaving Pinkie Pie to redesign the interior of the restaurant, leaving Saffron and her father to get cooking their way.

They finish just before the re-re-opening of the restaurant and have a group hug before putting their completed tasks together. When the door opens, the restaurant fills with customers but Zesty notices the flood of activity and walks inside to protest. Rarity and Pinkie Pie stand up for the customers just as they do for the two of them. Zesty is in no mood to try the food and heads out without another word. With things successful, Rarity and Pinkie Pie get the signal to return home and Pinkie Pie hugs Rarity to celebrate.
