Episode 123 | No Second Prances | Aired: April 30 2016 |
Inside Twilight's castle, Twilight is teaching
Starlight proper non-magic table setting skills for her lesson of the
day but Starlight one-ups her by setting the table with magic. The point
was to set the table and work a friendship lesson within it (not sure
how that works when the two are pretty much unrelated) so Twilight has
to force a lesson that makes no sense whatsoever into the mix. The
dinner they're having tomorrow night is one where Celestia will see
their progress in friendship lessons and Twilight has added an extra
spot for whomever Starlight has chosen for her new friend, which'll
really move her skills along. Starlight's joke about her past doesn't amuse Twilight in the slightest so she heads outside, trying to tell herself that it'll be easy. Pinkie Pie overhears and brings her to Sugar Cube Corner to introduce Mrs. Cake to her. Mrs. Cake is busy finishing up a cake but manages to get in a second to greet Starlight. However, Starlight shows off a bit too well and makes a cake that leaves Mrs. Cake to scold Starlight for perhaps attempting to put her out of business. Worse still, Starlight releases the magic holding the cake in the air and it ends up on Mrs. Cake's head, which doesn't change her mood, even when Pinkie approves of the taste. Starlight heads to Sweet Apple Acres where Applejack assures she has the right friend in Big Macintosh. Since Big Mac isn't much of a talker, it's a bit of a dissapointment to Starlight so she tries a spell to fix the matter. It's too much too quickly for Big Mac and he ends up confused and scared at the same time before running away. It takes Applejack's progressively angrier faces to convince Starlight to put things straight. Later, Starlight meets up with Rarity, whom has the perfect outfit in mind but won't have it ready in time for the dinner so she chooses a hat from the clearance bin but ruins it when she tries to stretch the hat over Starlight's horn.Starlight heads outside and finds Rainbow Dash but is unfamilliar with the blue pegasus' favorite fliers of all time, leaving Rainbow Dash in total shock. With things not going well, Starlight finds Fluttershy at a picnic but while Angel loves being fussed over, it's clear to Starlight that Angel wouldn't be the friend Twilight had in mind. It's not making sense to Starlight why she's having such a hard time making a new friend and ends up stressing out so much that she attracts too much attention. Needing a relaxation, she heads into the spa for a treatment. While the treatment unfolds, Starlight finds herself chatting with another pony behind her with similar ordeals and races to tell Twilight the news once it's over. Twilight finishes setting the table without magic and considers it second to making new friends. Starlight finds her and announces the good news. However, when the new friend makes herself known, it's Trixie, whom Twilight isn't happy to see and the duo make a very long story very short on the details. Trixie appreciates that Twilight is giving her a second chance and shares that she is doing a new magic show with a title that is still a work in progress. Twilight cannot take it anymore and eventually privately tells Starlight her fears of Trixie. (I cannot blame Twilight for being suspicious as Trixie has never shown to be trustworthy at all in both her apperances on the show, though Starlight certainly has proven herself.) Starlight is annoyed that Twilight won't trust her even though she was allowed to choose anypony as the new friend. Twilight agrees and trusts Starlight but hopes she doesn't regret it as Starlight assures and the duo head off, leaving Twilight to deal with the (rather impressive) dining utensil sculpture of Trixie's image. Outside, Trixie is getting her stage set up but onlookers aren't thrilled at Trixie's return or Starlight hanging out with her. It's not surprising to Trixie as she knows that deep down, ponies don't forget the past. Trixie is ready to secretly reveal why she was targeting Twilight in the first place and gets confirmation that Starlight will keep it so she spills everything about it. Trixie offers Starlight to help get her wagon set-up but warns it may not be as clean as it could be. Starlight agrees to help as she can organize very well. They past by a bush where a voice quietly calls out to Starlight. It's Twilight, whom is checking to see how things are going but it's not how Starlight would've liked to have been asked and eventually meets Twilight's "friend" DJPON3 (whose name I don't like as it's too obscure and of course the fan name), whom is not paying attention in the slightest and eventually walks away. Twilight is just looking out for Starlight but Starlight no longer feels Twilight trusts her or Trixie. Starlight cannot even bare to think what Twilight has said means about her and runs away to continue helping Trixie. Starlight realizes that Twilight isn't good at everything and notes that Trixie does better at magic shows, which Trixie agrees. However, Trixie doesn't consider herself the best as a trick by Hoofdini is one she's never been able to do and explains the gist of how the trick is done. Unfortunately, Trixie has no idea how the whole thing was pulled off but Starlight suggests using real magic to bring her into the box for her reappearance finale. It's still a risky task because if Starlight messes up, it could be over for Trixie. Starlight assures she doesn't make mistakes and is willing to help Trixie with the trick. The only problem is, Starlight has to go to the all-important dinner with Twilight tonight and thus cannot be at both. Trixie is willing to understand if Starlight chooses to go to the dinner but doesn't know how she'll survive the trick without Starlight. At the dinner, with no sign of Starlight, things aren't going as planned so Twilight has to fake assuring that things are going exactly as planned with the friendship lessons, especially with Starlight's new "friends" staying for the dinner that Cranky so desperately wants to have. Twilight sneaks out and ends up at Trixie's magic show, suspecting that Trixie is behind Starlight's abscence. Pinkie isn't so thrilled about the magic show's looks and Applejack considers the title too long but it''s still a work in progress. Trixie is excited that it'll soon be the best night of their lives but Twilight arrives after overhearing Trixie mention skipping the dinner and isn't pleased about it, especially since Starlight didn't inform them (though to be fair, it probably wouldn't have mattered because of how important the dinner is). However, Trixie feels she's finally beaten Twilight at something but that only hurts Starlight's feelings as now Starlight feels it was just a ruse so she could be at Twilight. Trixie admits this but then tries to take it back, claiming she was caught up in the moment but it's too late as Starlight heads off in tears. Now it's Twilight's turn to scold Trixie but that backfires as Trixie now feels like crying and heads into her trailer to get ready. When the show begins, Trixie is less than enthusiastic about the performance, even as the crowd is excited that she's going to perform the complicated trick Hoofdini did. Just feet away, Starlight wipes away a tear as Twilight admits she was wrong to choose friends for her and instead should let Starlight choose the friends. Starlight fears Trixie could just be using this friendship to gain a victory but Twilight considers Trixie to be telling the truth this time. While Trixie gets into the cannon and lights the fuse, Twilight allows Starlight to be the judge of her own friends. With that, Trixie fires out of the cannon and into the manticore's mouth. Luckily, Starlight helps out (though it's painfully clear it's not a true trick because you can tell she was transported there). Trixie is alive, though quite dizzy and cannot even get the words out before collapsing. Regardless, the crowd loves it and when Starlight arrives, Trixie comes to and introduces the crowd to her. As the crowd continues to cheer, Twilight heads backstage and apologizes to Trixie, getting an honorary thanks in return. Meanwhile, Cranky cannot understand how Celstia's hair movies the way it does but Celestia is in no mood to answer. |
