MLP Friendship is Magic Season 2 Episode 12 Summary

Episode 38	Family Appreciation Day	Aired: January 7 2012
Inside their house/barn/whatever, Applejack, Apple Bloom and Big Macintosh awaken to a racket by Granny Smith, whom announces the arrival of the Zap Apples. They get to work as Apple Bloom asks about making Zap Apple Jam only to be given the task of sweeping the floor with a "broom" while she herself takes aim at the recipe for the jam. Back outside, a storm gathers but it turns out to be the first stage of the Zap Apples and it's right on time. Just outside their barn, Diamond Tiara and whom we discover is Filthy Rich (no pun intended I'm sure), presumably her father arrive. Apparently every year FR gets his hooves on the jam first ( at least from what I gathered) and the two head off while Diamond Tiara tries to show Apple Bloom the troubles of being with a granny pony before heading off, assuring that the secret is safe (her sly expression and past attitude towards Apple Bloom suggest otherwise). Later, AB and GS enter town as GS explains they have much to get before the harvesting and her actions are making AB hang her head low in shame or embarrassment. Making matters worse, as GS gathers the honey from the beehive, DT passes by with Silver Spoon and they both snicker and wave back while AB slumps even lower than before. Luckily, they're all done shopping but GS isn't done singing. At school (presumably) the next day, as one would expect from hearing her father speak, only Diamond Tiara is wide awake through the whole thing. The others spring back th life once he exits. Cheerilee announces that its Apple Bloom's turn to bring in a family member for next Monday's Family Appreciation Day but there's a conflict with Zap Apple Harvest Day being that exact Monday. DT gladly overrides AB's lie that no other pony is available and the date is set. AB fears she'll be the laughing stock of Ponyville and Applejack reminds her that she herself cannot go. That's all the two get out before the third sign appears, with the 2nd apparently already happened. AJ assures that GS has no shortage of stories to tell but that's precisely what AB is worried about. Inside her clubhouse, her friends are told of her situation but all the worrying is making AB sick and that gives Scootaloo an idea. GS gets her army of jars ready and fit when one of them literally cracks under pressure and is tossed aside (strangely without breaking if it's that brittle). She then is distracted by the commotion upstairs and once there, she sees right through their scheme so Sweetie-Belle summons them further upstairs to the 4th sign of the Zap Apples. Another idea follows that, after some tweaking, ends up with the three of them landing in the pig pen. Their next idea puts both sleeping Granny Smith and Mrs. Cheerilee into the mix. While Apple Bloom controls Granny Smith's voice and partial actions, the other two CMCs assist in that motion by holding GS' necessary body parts in place. Everything is going well until Scootaloo's excitement causes GS' body to hit the beams above and wake her up. GS reassures that she'll be there Monday. AB can't believe GS woke from her nap, something she never does but Sweetie-Belle figures another pony can run away. The next day, the Zap Apple Harvest is underway with the final sign triggered. Scootaloo delivers a fake telegram to Granny Smith and she heads off, leaving Apple Bloom to figure she's safe. During another school day, AB just gets to explaining the reason for her granny's absence when GS arrives herself. Diamond Tiara is eager to hear GS' presentation if can be recalled from memory and it is, in great detail. When it ends, everyone is amazed and DT gets a little remark from AB before protesting that GS is just a kooky old lady, causing AB to stand up for her. Afterwards, the family is outside with their Zap Apple Jam and a humongous line like in GS' young days. Scootaloo says it's probably the best ZAJ she's had yet and is told that AB probably had something to do with that. GS asks for ponies to sing to the water (why this is necessary isn't explained) and even Diamond Tiara is urged to take part while AB and AJ have a good laugh.
