Episode 37 Hearth's Warming Eve Aired:
December 17 2011
On board a train climbing up a mountain incline, the ponies are excited to be heading to Canterlot and Rarity worried about being festive enough. When they arrive, Twilight decides to play a variant of Eye Spy and Pinkie Pie has to fudge it during her turn but the ponies have a good laugh anyway. Inside Canterlot Castle, Twilight is thrilled that they're part of the most important play of the season and Fluttershy can't bear the thought of hundreds if not thousands of ponies watching her.

Before any of them get another word out, there's a breeze coming in from the just-opened windows with the likely guilty culprit Rainbow Dash fantasying about the crowd cheering her on and Applejack has to remind her about the play's real motive, starting an argument between the two of them. Pinkie Pie's failure to aid Twilight in getting Fluttershy out doesn't help and none of them have volunteered to shut the window. At last the story begins narrated by Spike being dressed in a fashion similar to William Shakespeare (not to mention the story sounding familiar to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet with the feud between the "families").

A storm rages in the play that is only amplified by the ponies' anger. Not even the stars of the play are able to settle the quarrel. Things are a bit better at their houses (no quarreling) as they agree to find a new land. Rarity complains even when cosplaying as a character and her travels are a mere 5 minutes long (as I predicted) despite her aching hooves. Meanwhile, Applejack and Pinkie Pie are literally going in circles with Pinkie Pie's all-seeing map offering no help. Pinkie Pie hands the map to Applejack's face before plunging off the cliff.
The groups come together and discover they're all on the same land, which triggers another argument and the arrival of the snowstorm from before. The only nearby shelter is a cave so the ponies settle in there but now the argument moves as to what part of the cave they get and that only makes things worse because they all divide the cave floor up. Twilight is the first to notice ice concealing the entrance of the cave and half of the group respectively. She explains that Star Swirl the Bearded taught her about this phenomenon called Windego and explains. Still, the ice creeps up on all three of them but just when it looks like they'll be encased in ice, Twilight's magic removes the Windego ponies, then frees herself, Fluttershy and Applejack from the ice. Twilight never knew about this but figures that the three of them caused it as a whole.

The friendship bonds eventually free the remaining ponies and make them more friendly and the group is able to escape out of the cave, naming the new land Equestria. The play ends with a festive song, then the group has a chat about being in the play before the windows open once more, bringing in the cold air and a new argument. However, remembering what happened in the play, RD shuts the windows herself and they all have a good laugh.
