Episode 12 Call of the Cutie Aired:
January 7 2011
At what looks to be a daycare center for baby ponies, their teacher Cheerilee teaches them about cutie marks but not everyone is interested in hearing all this and some snicker when they see Cheerilee's hairstyle as Cheerilee explains that everyone wore manes that way back then. All the while, Apple Bloom is jotting down notes for herself as Twist, one of the student ponies correctly explains when a pony gets their cutie mark. The same pink pony that wasn't interested in learning now wants Apple Bloom's attention and when given that attention by Apple Bloom herself, she gives Apple Bloom a note but Cheerilee catches only Apple Bloom, with the note but it's blank like Apple Bloom's hip.
After school lets out, Twist offers some of her self-made peppermint sticks but Apple Bloom isn't interested. The pink pony and her friend discuss the pointlessness of them having to learn about cutie marks when they have theirs already and they invite everyone to come to the pink one's Quinceañera, a party about herself and her new cutie mark, then the two of them do a "rump hi-five" and continue snickering about Apple Bloom's "blank flank". Apple Bloom returns to Applejack, complaining how unfair it is that she doesn't have her cutie mark yet (and we learn that the pink one responsible for the party is named "Diamond Tiara"). AJ tells about how several of their family members had their cutie marks last including AJ herself. That gives AB an idea. Maybe her cutie mark has to do with apples!

At the market, AB uses some marketing techniques to sell apples but while she sells the first customer apples (by pretty much force), she's literally making a mess of things and ends up making them get rid of their remaining stock of apples when AB falsely accuses another customer for putting apples into her bag. AJ declares AB's apple selling days as over and orders her to go home right away, then tries a more gentle approach by seeing if there's a pony without a cutie mark that AB can go with. AB arrives at Twist's house but discovers that Twist has her cutie mark too.
This doesn't mean they can't go to the party together does it? DT and her friend pass by with a comment that embarrasses AB. RD finds her literally with a dark cloud overhead and pushes it aside to find out what's wrong. AB, with much to get off her chest, explains in Pinkie Pie fashion. RD says she can get AB a cutie mark in a snap yet AB recites what AJ had told her but in any case, she follows RD's steps but nothing works so Pinkie Pie arrives to help out. AB is disappointed when she hears that there aren't any cupcakes but is willing to help make them as Pinkie Pie starts a song about them.
When she finishes, the cupcakes are done and despite their crispy appearance, Pinkie Pie seems to enjoy them. To AB's surprise, there's a white spot on her hip and she tries to guess what it is but Pinkie Pie realizes that it's flour. Twilight enters asking what happened so AB re-explains her situation in Pinkie Pie style but Twilight still doesn't understand until she is told that she could use her magic to give AB a cutie mark. Twilight says what AJ had said earlier but gives in to AB's many pleas. Time and time again, a cutie mark is created but it fades away so AB concludes that she isn't going to the party but (somehow) ends up there anyway.

She figures she has to hide before anyone sees her but PP gives her a party hat. AB tries to hide behind balloons but a dancing unicorn pony unintentionally pops them so she hides under a table and almost makes it with a brief stop from a pony wanting (punch?) but runs into AJ, whom pushes her away from the party entrance, then leaves as she sees AB's friends approaching (little does AJ know that they're pretty much the whole reason for her not wanting to go in the first place). Acting quickly, AB puts on some clothing that she literally put on last minute. She manages to talk her way through the conversation until she trips and removes the clothing.

Everyone gathers around her but two others come out from under the table and explain that the lack of cutie mark means potential and they discover that the three of them have no cutie mark. Twilight gives an explanation for their luckiness as DT protests that it's still her party and she isn't interested in the "rump hi-five" from her friend (now revealed as Silver Spoon). The trio introduce themselves to each other and come up with their very own club to find out who they are. Then they head off to find cookies while Twilight recalls her letter to Celestia in thought and speaking of Celestia, she finishes reading the letter and smiles at her cutie mark.
