Episode 61 Somnambula
(Part 1)
Aired:
September 21, 1987
At Paradise Estate, the ponies race out to get balloons and things up as Truly explains that the big brother ponies are coming home. Furthermore, she and others explain what it all means in a song as things are set up. By the time it's over, Buttons is putting up balloons when Surprise makes her jump enough to pop several of her balloons and make her regret it. Circus music suddenly fills the hair as a cloaked individual gets the volume turned up just as the ponies pick up on it but don't know the source.
Howeer, the bird would rather not sing for the individual, revealed as Somnambula but Somnambula forces her, leaving Paradise and others in a trance and unable to walk away. Spike is no use in getting them to stop but a few others aren't in the trance just yet as they're practicing a tune for when the big brother ponies arrive. Meanwhile, the tranced ponies have gathered to Somnambula so she stops the singing and is feeling much younger. The ponies thought they'd heard a circus and Somnambula confirms it and allows them to follow her if a circus is what they want. Sure enough, they follow.
However, the big brother ponies are racing towards Paradise Estate with excitement and eventually cross the finish line. Only problem is, there's no one there so they head inside to find it equally empty, or at least almost equally empty as Truly and others arrive to greet them and explain where the others went.  Meanwhile, Somnambula uses her powers to start giving each pony what their heart desires. As sunset approaches, the boy ponies don't want to give up but know that they won't be able to see well soon.
While the circus continues above, Somnambula makes the bird sing once more and it's enough to awaken Truly from her sleep. The others follow but cannot stop Truly from proceeding into the trap. Worse still, the boys awaken to the sound too and end up falling for the trap.  Spike and others build a giant snowball and regrettingly has it dumped on the boys, breaking them from Somnambula's spell. As they figure out where the sound is coming from, Slugger joins Truly in the march towards the trap. Luckily they snap Slugger out of it and know they have to go through the door but the door's transformation gives them second thoughts.
