Episode 161 | Daring Done? | Aired: September 9 2017 |
It's morning in Ponyville and a pony is selling
Ponyville Chronicles newspapers, leaving Pinkie Pie to happily pay for
one. Rainbow Dash doesn't share the excitement, not finding anything of
note to even change her mood about until Pinkie Pie finds an article
about the supposed retirement of Daring Do. It's enough for the duo to
set off to set the story straight. Along the way, Pinkie Pie is taking
the story as true and isn't sure A.K. Yearling wants visitors at the
moment but Rainbow Dash feels otherwise, claiming it's not
something A.K. Yearling would've done in her entire career. Pinkie Pie becomes suspicious that Rainbow Dash is only doing this get more books out of the author but Rainbow Dash assures it's not (though I think that is part of the reason, given she's been obssesed with her lately). They reach her house and Rainbow Dash frantically knocks on the door. With no answer, Rainbow Dash has multiple theories but Pinkie Pie confirms that A.K. Yearling is home after all and describes what she's seeing through the window. Finally, Rainbow Dash succeeds once she makes it clear that they're her fiends and A.K. Yearling sadly invites them inside. Rainbow Dash doesn't remain calm, fearing her house was broken into but A.K. assures nothing was stolen and all was explained in the newspaper. However, Rainbow Dash re-reads the article to find no explanation for said retirement. It doesn't really make sense to Rainbow Dash until she and Pinkie Pie are given a file folder of gathered articles from her last adventure in Equestria. Despite the duo's intent to disprove the stories, A.K. Yearling insists otherwise as she'd never thought about the mess she left behind. It's all the proof A.K. Yearling needs to decide her adventures are over. Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie refuse to do nothing and suggest they go to Somnambula (which is a G1 reference to a villain from that era). A.K. Yearling gets hope that perhaps things will turn around if residents see her in person and with that, they set off, eventually arriving to a replica of a scene from Daring Do's last book. As extra assurance, Rainbow Dash finds a pony with an apple cart and tries to hopefully get good info about her from him. Unfortunately, Rainbow Dash gets the exact opposite from him and others the trio talk to. It's too much for A.K. Yearling to take and she heads off with regret. Meanwhile, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie find the Get On Inn and Rainbow Dash is aware that it's a constant retreat for Daring Do in the books so the head over to see if anyone there is fond of the hero. They head inside, only to find the female pony there is rather slow to respond. Pinkie Pie takes note of the pony's fancy wardrobe and tries to play fancy herself, leaving the pony confused. Pinkie Pie gives the pony plain English and the duo learn that Daring Do no longer stays there after being in such a rush to even pay the bill she owed. Unfortunately, the female pony doesn't buy Rainbow Dash's explanation, and shares a story regarding the glow pads she and others wear and cherish. Luckily, they find A.K. Yearling and join her (though one would've thought the crowd and their "leader" would've noticed her just feet away from them, especially given how loudly Pinkie Pie pointed her out). They agree to spend the night at the inn and are ready to go early the next morning. Despite A.K.'s doubts, Rainbow Dash puts her plan to convince the others into action once the crowd reiterates their blame on Daring Do for stealing their glow pads. The crowd is left chattering with intrigue and fear before Rainbow Dash brings up the statue that has the apple cart pony sharing a story about the statue's history with Somnambula. The story is met with approval by Rainbow Dash and the crowd and Rainbow Dash figures Somnambula would've been there to support Daring Do. However, the crowd "leader" continues pointing the blame on Daring Do and off A.K. Yearling goes once again. Rainbow Dash gets angry and demands the "leader" to explain what Daring Do did to him. As it turns out, the "leader" is Cabrileron, one of Daring Do's arch enemies and it was all part of his plan. Despite Rainbow Dash unwittingly contributing to Cabrileron's plan, she is tied up and carried away but not without crying for help. Luckily, Pinkie Pie (and eventually Daring Do) are there to help but the desert environment is too much for Pinkie Pie's spirit, leaving her to collapse not far into the journey. Daring Do has doubts but Pinkie Pie knows Daring Do cares too much for Rainbow Dash to just give up on her. With that, they scope out where the hideout is and head inside. Cabrileron is waiting for them and notes the danger is just like in the Daring Do story. Unlike the story, Rainbow Dash is tied up high on a pole that is sinking fast. Pinkie Pie decides they should follow the story and take a leap of faith (which is generally not a good idea IRL). Luckily, there are pyramid-shaped "vents" that keep them up in the air long enough to reach Rainbow Dash. They manage to rescue Rainbow Dash and make it out in time to see Cabrileron and his henchponies scurrying away. They catch up quickly and Daring Do has the last words before the crowd closes in on Cabrileron before he and the henchponies bolt. Daring Do, Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash share their lessons learned before Daring Do rights all the damage she caused in town, leaving to cheers and happiness all around. |
