Episode 131 | The Cart before the Ponies | Aired: August 6 2016 |
At Ms. Cheerilee's school, the class greets their
teacher politely but are in for quite a day as they're going to learn
physics, leaving a few to question based on difficulty. Regardless,
they'll likely be needing it for participating in the Applewood Derby,
leaving the class with excitement. However, there's work to be done
first as they have a day to put together their own cart with an older
pony's help. Should the carts manage to finish the race, they'll each be
in the ranks to get one of three awards that Cheerilee shows them.
With that, the class begins the boring part of the ordeal and when they get out, Sweetie Belle has learned much. The three of them know which of them will get each award but have their own cart ideas in mind. Scootaloo heads to Cloudsdale where Rainbow Dash is more than thrilled to help given she'd been in the race as a filly and recalls it like it was yesterday. Rainbow Dash sets to work to find her cart's blueprints, knowing that she'll have to modify it for use on the road but whatever the result, she knows it'll be awesome. With everything seemingly under control, Scootaloo heads out. Meanwhile, Applejack also approves to help but has decided they're going the traditional route with the cart based on it following their family's past races. While Apple Bloom takes in her task, Rarity is also excited to learn she'll be helping in the race and remembers the horror of coming in 2nd place for creativity as a filly. Now she knows what the audience wants, bold and big and that means nothing Sweetie Belle wants is going to be included. The group get up before sunrise to get started but despite fears, the CMCs agree that their older sisters know what they're doing. Scootaloo eventually brings in more supplies but the only have until 12 noon to get the cart completed. Things aren't going better with Applebloom as Applejack has nearly completed the traditional cart. Apple Bloom wants to make a suggestion but takes out a critical support piece, causing the cart to fall apart. Elsewhere, Sweetie Belle brings her sketch and yellow material to add to the cart but Rarity doesn't approve as she fears it'd be even worse if she lost the prize for creativity now versus when she was a filly. The cart is done at last but it's nothing that Sweetie Belle wanted (and it looks ridiculous). The fillies bring parts to attach but as they do, their older siblings take them off to maintain their idea of the cart. The Cutie Mark Crusaders meet on a hill to discuss their problems with their siblings as the others below finish up their carts. The group agree that in spite of this, they'll still have fun in the race but find their siblings behind the wheel and aren't as thrilled to see the results as the carts pass by. The carts arrive but despite Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Applejack not abiding by the rules, Cheerilee allows them to compete, leaving Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom and Scootaloo to be along for the ride. Cheerilee signals the start of the race and that gets a song underway, whereby the sisters each have a different feeling about the race. Worse still, each of them is approaching the center and while a few carts make it by, the rest end up in a pile-up and pretty well totaled. Apple Bloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle have had enough and shout their frustration loud enough for everyone to hear. It's clear to Rarity Applejack and Rainbow Dash that they didn't listen well enough but the CMCs didn't speak up sooner as they figured their siblings knew best. Rainbow Dash suggests a new race and Cheerilee agrees if the three older ponies remain out of the race. With that, the groups rebuild and follow exactly what their siblings want. The new carts take to the starting line before the race gets underway. However, with the siblings behind the wheel, the older ponies need something to do so Rarity suggests they relax and do nothing at all. Of course, as the racers pass by, Rainbow Dash can't help to cheer Scootaloo on and has to settle down once more. |
