Episode 59 Wonderbolts Academy Aired:
December 15 2012
At a picnic, Pinkie Pie is anxiously waiting for the mailpony to arrive to confirm or deny Rainbow Dash's request to join the academy. Rainbow Dash isn't nervous at all, she's the best flyer in Ponyville or Equestria and bumps into the mailpony, whom has the much-awaited letter. Without a thank you, RD opens the envelope and reads, disappointed that she didn't get in but she was only kidding and has been accepted into the academy.
Pinkie Pie cannot control her excitement and hugs RD tighter than RD wants. She announces her return in a week but PP goes over the top in reminding RD to write, uncertain as to whether or not RD heard (well given how loud it was, I don't doubt
everyone heard you, if they didn't go deaf first). RD arrives at the academy to see ponies in training before taking her spot in the lineup. However, Sergeant Spitfire is in charge and isn't impressed with any of them and orders them 500 laps to prove themselves. SS is impressed with RD and her new friend Lightning Dust, saying they aren't bad for newbies. While they go eat, PP waits for the return letter and knows all too well the consequences so she sticks by the mailbox even after getting offered other activities.Back at the academy, SS introduces the group to the Dizzitron and instructs them on what to do when released of its power.
As the first pony takes their turn, the others watch nervously and when she finishes, it's a good enough time for SS but it's nothing to write home about.  RD is up next and her confidence is backed up with her speed and a new academy record. LD decides to test her limits and requests full power. Even so, she proves almost as good as RD, just half a second longer but still impressive. The rest of the group fairs far worse and SS announces that the group will be working in pairs for the remainder of the camp with the announced pairs tomorrow morning but RD and LD figure they'd be made Wonderbolts as they spoke.
The next morning, RD asks about who her partner is and when she sees the list, she finds herself a Wing Pony instead of a Leader Pony.RD enters SS' office, asking to be made Lead Pony but is denied and told that because LD pushes herself a bit harder, she'll stay Lead Pony. Without another word, she heads out and the next game is underway. RD's team comes out with the first flag and RD is mostly unscathed. Back at home, PP awakens to a still-empty mailbox and the others are worried with no clue on how to help her but what'll help PP is getting a letter back from RD so she eventually decides on a Care Package and to deliver it in person (or pony).

Meanwhile at the academy, it's time for the obstacle course and once again, RD and LD make record time so they hit the Mess Hall early. Another competition takes place the following day where the groups (so I gather) clear the weather away and LD gets an idea to literally blow away their competition with a tornado of their combined Wing Power. However, it proves too much for them and the tornado spins away, wrecking everything in its path, including Twilight's balloon and the group inside plummet downward. With a little help from the Pegasai, Twilight's group is saved but LD loved the adventure and gets RD's disapproval.
RD reports to SS, whom announces yet another academy record, learning about RD's methods and is told that RD is quitting. Twilight's group is surprised RD is quitting but learn it's not her dream anymore. SS comes out, scolding RD for leaving without waiting for a response and admits she was wrong. Her enforcements bring in Lightning Dust, whom is stripped of her badge and booted out, leaving RD to get the badge herself. RD and her academy members begin 20 laps without getting her Care Package.
