My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Episode 16 Summary

Outside, Rainbow Dash quizzes Fluttershy on the elements of a good cheer and when it comes time to make a cheer, all Fluttershy can do is a quiet one no matter how loud she is told to get so RD falls over backward and Fluttershy wonders if her cheer was too loud (more like too soft and RD is just falling over in frustration). Later in the sky, RD practices her routine for....something as Fluttershy watches. However, the routine backfires when RD goes for the sonic rainboom of her her routine and she is reflected back in the other direction. Meanwhile at Twilight's house, the group is just about done with putting all the books on the shelves when RD crashes through bringing all books and ponies to the floor. Fluttershy comes in, wondering if her cheering (which she uses to congratulate RD on a good routine) is responsible. RD explains that Fluttershy had a feeble performance with her cheering and wishes the others could come to the Best Young Flier (if I'm hearing that right) competition and Pinkie Pie has to explain that along with what a sonic rainboom is as she tells Twilight she needs to get out more. RD says the last time she performed the sonic rainboom was when she was a filly and guiltily says she'll do it again. As she leaves, she tells Fluttershy to keep practicing. Fluttershy explains that RD has done the trick over 100,000 times without success and isn't sure that her cheers will be loud enough to help. She heads out the window while Twilight and the others literally sort out the mess of both helping RD and getting all of their books back on the shelf but Pinkie Pie helps with the book that landed on her face when the impact from RD pushed her into the bookcase. They find a spell to give a normal pony wings for 3 days and Twilight performs the spell on Rarity, whom isn't so sure about what'll happen but when the spell is complete, it appears to have worked. Up in the sky, RD tells Fluttershy to be more assertive and they meet other pegasai that decide to make fun of Rainbow Dash's name and Fluttershy tries being more assertive but the other pegasai aren't phased yet they agree to be there at the competition and leave. RD feels they're right and gets all worked up about what she thinks will happen. Fluttershy is in awe over Rarity, whom has sprouted wings and the others rise through the clouds in a balloon. RD sees them step out and proceeds to stop them only to find that they don't fall through the clouds as Twilight explains that they found a spell to let normal ponies walk on clouds since the spell used for Rarity's wings was much too difficult to give the others. With time left before the competition, RD agrees to show them around Cloudsdale (which is where they are now). They enter the weather factory where, well, weather gets created and Rarity's wing flapping causes the snowflakes the workers are inspecting to blow away and they must catch them. RD figures they should move on before a drought ensues. Next they enter where rainbows are made (we've moved from Unicornia to here I guess because Cheerilee had a short song about it in "Greetings from Unicornia") and Pinkie Pie has a taste that is to spicy for her as RD explains that rainbows aren't known for their flavor. They run into the jerks from earlier and Fluttershy suggests they see how clouds are made and assures that RD will win the competition. RD still isn't so sure but Rarity is getting all the attention and encourages snapping photos. Twilight reminds her that they're supposed to be helping RD but Rarity asks how one can put away perfection and moves to the sun. A bystander suggests Rarity enter the competition and while Rarity gives it some consideration, RD sees no way to win the competition now. Rarity is requested to perform next but says she'll be a while. RD peaks out from behind the curtain and is very nervous but after seeing the Wonderbolts enter, she gets excited but realizes she's next in line so she starts manipulating the line-up to put her 15th while Rarity is still not quite done with her makeup. Outside, Twilight and Pinkie Pie discuss the competition and Applejack wonders where Rarity and Rainbow Dash are with the competition nearly over. With only time for one more performer, Rarity and RD decide to perform. As Rarity does more of a ballet routine, RD starts hers and hits a pole, giving laughter to her bullies from earlier. She tries phase two and not only gets smacked by one of her spinning clouds but the cloud passes harmlessly through Celestia. Both are down to their final maneuver and Rarity's goes smoothly until the sun fries her wings and she falls. The Wonderbolts take off but are knocked out by Rarity's flailing so it's up to Rainbow Dash's sonic rainboom, which not only is successful but is able to help both the Wonderbolts and Rarity safely back into the stadium. A little later, Rarity apologizes to everyone for getting carried away with her wings. RD just wishes he could've met the Wonderbolts when they were awake but a tap on the shoulder reveals that the Wonderbolts are there and RD is left with nothing to say but "oh my gosh" in rapid succession. Celestia announces that RD is the winner of the competition and while RD is briefly carried away in "omigosh" land, Rarity tells Celestia what she learned. RD returns and the bullies congratulate her for winning, apologize to her for being mean and suggest maybe getting shown how a sonic rainboom is done but RD has plans with the Wonderbolts and heads off with them.
